Serving Denver students and their families for 50 plus years

Community Resources, Inc., (CRI) is an educational non-profit that supports students and their families by creating mentorships, family involvement events, classroom speakers presentations, and art and science experiences. Each year CRI coordinates thousands of programs that reach over 80,000 students in the Denver Metro Area.

CRI’s Academic Mentors Project matches high achieving 5th through 12th grade DPS students who have a passion or interest in a particular career or topic, with community volunteers who are accomplished professionals in their field. Examples of mentorship topics include aerospace engineering, paleontology, aviation, and culinary arts.

CRI’s Classroom Speakers Program serves as a resource for teachers, making over 500 classroom presentations, field trips, and assemblies available to schools.

CRI’s Family Nights create a fun and inviting environment with learning events that engage students and their families. Themes include Art, Science, Math Games, Multiculturalism, and Literacy.

Our History

Community Resources, Inc. (CRI) was started in 1972 by two mothers of Denver Public Schools students who believed that classroom learning in DPS could be enriched by bringing community volunteers into schools. These volunteer presenters shared their expertise and passion in a wide variety of areas, including the arts, science, geography, history, reading, writing and math. That program has grown from 10 original presenters to over 500.

Over the past 50 Years, CRI has expanded its programming in response to the needs of the students, staff and families of the district. Currently, our organization engages more than 300 volunteers who enhance learning through our six primary program areas: Academic Mentors, Classroom Speakers, Family Involvement Nights, Exploration Events, Science Fairs, and Customized Events. These volunteers are the true “resource” in Community Resources!
